PERFORMANCE ART
My life is a constant bursting of expression, of feeling, and sometimes even overwhelm, and I wish to share my learnings and experiences in as many ways as possible. Through the medium of the body, and through interaction and collaboration with others, I am able to say things that would otherwise have been hard to speak of. And I invite you to come and experience my art, my stories, my soul - and to listen to the spoken, and especially, the unspoken; I invite you to draw from your own experiences; ultimately finding connection, solace, meaning.
Welcome Drink
Long interludes of silence, interspersed with intense exchanges through non-verbal communication, via the medium of a screen pointed towards the audience, and the keyboard, towards me. I learnt that in day-to-day conversations, we hardly actually look into each others' eyes for an extended period of time. But when we do, a lot is revealed, a lot of the unspoken is ultimately said. As the words being typed slowly and inadvertently turned into gibberish, the silent communication between audience and artist became even more intense.
Trapped Inside a Box
For this performance, I stood inside what once used to be a prison cell, at the National Art School, Sydney, Australia; and narrated stories of contributors describing a time in their lives when they had felt trapped inside a box. None of the words were my own, but I was able to sew a new narrative by putting together portions or lines from all the stories that had been sent in to me.
Things I Couldn't Say
For all the iterations of this performance, held at the galleries and studios of National Art School, Sydney, Australia, in 2021, I would disappear into the audience. Four artists, dressed in black, emerged into the space, chanting words and poetry that I had written, without any indication about what the performance was about, who had written it, or tthe fact that there was going to be a performance at all.
Until I Scatter Like Light
A bold and immersive experientail event incorporating performance, video art, music and storytelling. Curated by Mr. Aakshat Sinha, this was an evening of creating connection and solace, as one woman made her voice heard in an intense, vulnerable, and courageous way.
